Moffitt Cancer Center opened its doors in October of 1986 with the sole focus of contributing to the prevention of and cure for cancer. Since then, the not-for-profit corporation has worked tirelessly in the fight against cancer, specifically in the areas of patient care, research and education. The combined efforts of research, education and care offered at Moffitt are known as Total Cancer Care® and these efforts have earned them the National Cancer Institute – Comprehensive Cancer Center (NCI-CCC) distinction, an honor that only 41 institutions have received.
Facebook Timeline and Fan Pages
Although the cancer center has received accolades from the National Cancer Institute, at 26 years old, it is one of the youngest institutions in the nation for the treatment of cancer. In the summer of 2011, Rhyme & Reason Design was contracted to assist Moffitt Cancer Center in researching, planning, designing and managing their social media initiatives. The objective was to create social media programming that effectively communicated with patients and families, engaged fans with educational material and offered an online community where fans, followers, pinners and viewers would feel welcomed and supported. Through daily management, crisis education and monthly content calendars, we have successfully helped Moffitt increase their Facebook likes by 82%, their Twitter followers by 85%, their YouTube channel views by 96% and introduced Pinterest to the marketing mix.
